Inside...
The George and Dragon (finalist for the Publican's Pub Design of the Year 2009), is an 18th century coaching inn. It has been lovingly restored by local craftsmen who have reused stone, slate flags, design and colours sympathetic to the Georgian period.
Comfy sofas, bare wooden tables, intimate alcoves and open crackling fires make it a perfect place to relax and unwind. Photographs, paintings, old prints and archive images tell stories of the Lowther Estate's unique heritage. And over time, more stories will be added.
When you visit the George and Dragon in Cumbria, you can enjoy a pint of local ale, indulge in the Lowther produce and feel that you're somewhere rather unique.
And out
Local limestone, granite and sandstone have been used to create a high-walled enclosed courtyard which leads into a garden.
Dogs are welcome in the bar area (but not the restaurant). Cyclists, walkers and families are all welcome. We have a secure place to store bikes and a room to dry clothes.
